As we enter into the second week of December, let us consider the next advent candle:
Clearly the Christmas season allows us to set aside some time for our loved ones. It is a season where we share time with our friends and family members that are dearest to us. Many of us travel across the country through traffic and snow in order to spend a few days with family members we don't often get to see. It is love that draws us together.
Oh Holy Night offers the following lyrics:
"Truly He taught us to love one another. His law is love and His gospel is peace."
This song really brings light to the fact that we are all called and created to love each other! The American way is to have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But you cannot have any of those three without Love.
The "Love" chapter of the Bible says, "If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing," (1 Corinthians 13:2-3). We must show genuine love toward others above all else.
"...but have not love, I am nothing."
This Christmas season, take time to love those around you. Rekindle broken relationships, share gifts with those in need, help around your community, or take time to invest love for others in other ways. Whatever you do, do it in LOVE.
