We celebrate with JOY this time of year because we know that Christmas brings with it the hope of our Savior. He is the true reason we have JOY in our hearts. The song, Joy to the World is a holiday favorite because it brings happiness and gladness into any space it is played or sung. Often times that song is a go-to for Christmas carolers - some of the happiest people we know!
JOY defined by Merriam-Webster is "a feeling of great happiness." Undoubtedly, the Christmas season provides many opportunities to experience great happiness. Celebrations with friends, extra time off from school and work with the kids, and family fun activities all provide ample opportunity to ENJOY life.
I'd like to take it one step further and look at JOY as even more than happiness. While happiness ebbs and flows with the circumstances of life, JOY can withstand anything. I see JOY as "delight no matter the circumstances." The Bible teaches that "the Joy of the Lord is our strength." The JOY God provides each of us goes beyond the Christmas season - it carries us through even the hard times. No matter how tough things may get we can delight in God and his plan for us! That's JOY! Embrace the JOY only God can give!
JOY doesn't stop after Christmas - carry the great happiness and contentment JOY brings into the New Year and beyond! Without a doubt , our world can use a little more JOY!
"Joy to the World, the Lord has come!"
